Spring is in the air at Lazy River Cottage. On top of Lookout Mountain here in Mentone, the trees are just beginning to bud, the dogwood trees are in full bloom, and in a matter of weeks everything will be lush and green once again. It’s the perfect time for river fun, fishing, and hiking to DeSoto Falls.



River Fun

With the spring’s warmer temperatures comes perfect weather to start kayaking Little River once again. At Lazy River Cottage, we provide our guests with four kayaks and life vests for use during your stay. Take some time to paddle up river and enjoy the beautiful scenery and old boat houses that show a glimpse into the history of this beautiful area.


Fishing

Little River is a great place to spend some time with your line in the water. Check out our blog on Fishing Little River for information on the fishing this area.

DeSoto Falls

DeSoto Falls hikes are fun anytime of the year. There are three DeSoto Falls hiking trails. From Lazy River Cottage, it is a short walk on County Road 613 (DeSoto Falls Road) to the parking area at the DeSoto Falls Trailhead. Check out our blog post on these beautiful hikes, walking distance from the cottage.

The DeSoto Falls State Park maintenance should be finishing up soon. We look forward to getting to enjoy the previous months of hard work put in by those who dredged the river and updated the beach area on the river bank for public use. We’ll be sure to let you know when the park and overlook are open to the public once again.

We happened upon this best-kept secret in North Alabama in 2017 when looking for a place to spend quality time with family.  The serene beauty of Mentone, AL along with its close proximity to Chattanooga, Huntsville, Birmingham, and Atlanta drew us in. 

 

Our family has spent as much time as possible on Little River by Desoto Falls ever since.  It has become a place of refuge and rest for our family and we have been blessed to have the opportunity to make countless memories in this extraordinary area of the state.
